Cry of the Modern Woman

“I’m not sure exactly why I started taking it. I think it was for acne? They never mentioned side effects, it’s just something I’m used to taking.”

I heard this statement repeated by friend after friend as a college nursing student. Raised as a cradle Catholic, I was convicted to save myself for marriage, and never found a reason to take hormonal birth control. It wasn’t until my studies through college and graduate school I realized its massive prevalence. I questioned and researched. I dove into natural family planning methods, took Creighton Model courses with my husband, and found NaproTechnology.

My eyes were opened with the empowering knowledge of our unique feminine design. Why are more women not taught this? Why is it not a part of our medical training? As a new Nurse Practitioner, I found presenting fertility awareness options, although less popular, resonated with many women. “I’d love to learn more!” “I’ve always been interested in a more natural route of family planning!” “No one has ever offered an alternative!” This is the cry of the modern woman. To fully understand her options and be empowered with making informed health decisions; not blindly taking a pill.

This is the cry of the modern woman. To fully understand her options and be empowered with making informed health decisions; not blindly taking a pill.

As Catholic women, this is our call in the culture of life. To embrace our unique design, honor it through our lived vocations, and empower others to do the same. This is the power of our feminine genius, the call of our beloved St. Pope John Paul II, whose feast we celebrate this week! As an NFP influencer, wife, and currently-pregnant mom, I want to encourage you to continue in your fertility journey. Chart your cycles, communicate with your spouse, learn new methods, research the Theology of the Body by St. Pope John Paul II, find NaproTechonlogy trained pro-life health providers, and question friends’ use of the pill.

Managing your fertility is one of the best things you can do to honor your feminine genius, build the culture of life and be the kind of true new feminist our world needs today! St. Pope JPII, pray for us!
